IDENTITY THEFT |
| |
Financial identity theft continues to be a problem for residents everywhere, including Campton Hills.
By State law, a local law enforcement agency where the victim resides must take a report for
identity theft if the victim reasonably suspects that his or her personal identifying information has been
unlawfully used by another person.
|
| |
|
| |
However, in most reports, the actual crime occurred elsewhere and would not be investigated by the
Campton Hills Police Department. In that case, the Campton Hills Police Department would refer the
report and investigation to the appropriate agency. For example, a victim’s credit card number is
used to make a purchase from a business in California. The only place the crime can be investigated,
in this instance, would be in California and CHPD would refer this crime report to the credit card
investigation division or the appropriate law enforcement agency in California for investigation.
