K-9 Koda's Crime Prevention Tips

Koda Crime Prevention!

Internet Safety:

  • Personal Information. Don’t give out personal information without your parents’ permission. This means you should not share your last name, home address, school name, or telephone number. Remember, just because someone asks for information about you does not mean you have to tell them anything about yourself!
  • Screen Name. When creating your screen name, do not include personal information like your last name or date of birth.
  • Passwords. Don’t share your password with anyone but your parents. When you use a public computer make sure you logout of the accounts you’ve accessed before leaving the terminal.

Stranger Danger:

If approached by a person you don't know very well, you must teach your child not to engage in conversation with a stranger regardless of how friendly they may come across, and if ever someone tries to grab them to fight back, kicking and screaming that the person is not their parent.

Fall Leaf Burning

Open Burning
Landscape Waste

Recently the Village has received comments about neighbors burning landscape waste.  As a reminder any and all burning in the village shall be in accordance with the following restrictions:

The open burning of brush shall occur only on the property upon which the brush was generated subject to the following restrictions:

  • Burning is permitted only on sunny days between nine o'clock (9:00) A.M. and three o'clock (3:00) P.M.
  • Burning is not permitted when the wind is in excess of ten (10) miles per hour. (2013 Code § 7-2-2)
  • Burning is not permitted within twenty feet (20') of any building, structure, property line, or combustible material. (2013 Code § 7-2-2; &. 2016 Code)
  • Burning is not permitted when it is determined and announced by the county health department that inversion conditions or an ozone alert exist.
  • Brush shall be dry when burned.
  • Burning is not permitted on public or private roads, alleys, sidewalks or easements.
  • All open burning must be supervised until the fire is extinguished.
  • A fire extinguisher or garden hose or water source shall be available at the burning site.
  • It is the responsibility of the individual conducting the burning and the owner of the property to satisfactorily determine that there is compliance with all burning conditions.
  • The terms and provisions of this chapter shall not apply to any burning of prairie plants for purposes of habitat reclamation; provided, that those performing controlled prairie burning must receive the proper permits from their fire protection district, if applicable, and notify the village police department.
  • The terms and provisions of this chapter shall not apply to the burning of brush for purposes of domestic fireplaces or cooking or external fireplaces, or to self-contained outdoor wood-burning devices or fireplaces. (2013 Code § 7-2-2)
  • The terms and provisions of this chapter shall not apply to the open burning of brush for purposes of ceremonial fires; provided, that notice of any ceremonial fire has been given to the fire protection district, if applicable, serving the area where the fire is to take place as well as notification to the village police department. Failure to notify the applicable fire protection district and police department and obtain permission prior to conducting a ceremonial fire utilizing brush shall be deemed a violation of this chapter.
  • The open burning of landscape waste and/or other materials, with the exception of brush, is prohibited in the village except for those living within the 60119 U.S. postal service zip code. If the state of Illinois expands its vehicle emission testing program to include the 60119 zip code, this prohibition shall automatically apply to the area included in the vehicle emission testing program.

Change a Child's Story: CASA

CASA Kane County Is A Nonprofit, Volunteer-Based Organization That Advocates For Abused And Neglected Children Within The Juvenile Court System. Our Highly Trained Volunteers Are Appointed By A Judge To Represent The Best Interests Of Children In The Abuse And Neglect Court.

Our Obligation Is To Ensure That The Children We Represent Will Be Visited At Least Monthly, And That Their Needs, Desires And Circumstances Will Be Reported To The Court At Every Scheduled Hearing. The Court Appointed Special Advocate/Guardian Ad Litem (CASA/GAL) Will Be The Consistent Person In The Child’s Life.

SUPPORT ABUSED AND NEGLECTED CHILDREN

  • How much will you give to help the children of our community?

When children can’t speak for themselves, CASA can.

CASA Kane County relies on the generosity of individuals, corporations and foundations for annual donations. Your donation provides a trained CASA/ GAL volunteer to support what’s in the best interest of youth in foster care.

Volunteers are vital to our mission of serving 100% of the abused and neglected children in the 16th Judicial Circuit.  Our volunteers fill many roles – from serving as a Court Appointed Special Advocate/Guardian ad Litem (CASA/GAL); to helping collect gifts for youth in care during the holiday season; being our “boots on the ground” in order to set up and manage one of our many fundraising events; to serving on a committee or in a leadership role for the organization.
