Electronics recycling planned
South Elgin, West Dundee, Batavia
After two months of outreach to and negotiation with numerous villages and cities, we are tentatively in a position to reinstate the Kane County Electronics Recycling Program in mid to late September. The new drop-off locations will be staffed full time to avoid the dumping issues we had previously. The following list represents current status of the future drop-off locations and event.
The Village of West Dundee: Public Works Facility - 900 Angle Tarn
The Village of South Elgin: 735 Martin Drive. The Village Board will vote on the agreement at their next meeting on Monday, September 6th, 2016.
Batavia: 517 Fabyan Parkway.
The County’s contracted recycler, eWorks, will be charging a recycling fee to residents for TVs and computer monitors – both tube and flat screen - across the board for all drop-off locations and the event. The fee, which may be paid online in advance or onsite by cash or card, will be $25 for screens 20 inches and under (measured diagonally) and $35 for screens 21 inches and over. This same fee is being charged in DuPage County and other local events.
If everything proceeds as planned with the Villages of West Dundee and South Elgin, we plan to hold the next event in late September and then return to our regularly scheduled “Second-Saturday of each month” events starting October 8th. The November 12th event, in addition to electronics and books, will include shredding and latex paint as previously planned.
The drop-off opening dates in mid-September will be announced along with the event announcement, urging people to utilize the convenient daily drop-off locations instead of “waiting in a line on a Saturday,” which will also alleviate the volume of participants to the
