Campton Hills Police Department
Prescription Drug Take-Back

On October 22, 2016 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. the Campton Hills Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) will give the public its 12th opportunity in six years to prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs.

Bring your pills for disposal to the Campton Village Hall at 40W270 LaFox Rd., Campton Hills. (The DEA cannot accept liquids or needles or sharps, only pills or patches.)  The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked.

This initiative addresses a vital public safety and public health issue.  Medicines that languish in home cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion, misuse, and abuse. Rates of prescription drug abuse in the U.S. are alarmingly high, as are the number of accidental poisonings and overdoses due to these drugs.  Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including from the home medicine cabinet. In addition, Americans are now advised that their usual methods for disposing of unused medicines—flushing them down the toilet or throwing them in the trash—both pose potential safety and health hazards.

For more information about the disposal of prescription drugs or about the October 22, 2016 Take Back Day event, go to the DEA Diversion website or contact Chief Dan Hoffman at 630-584-4242 or via email at

Trick or Treating Hours

Kids love Halloween! To dress up in scary costumes and go door-to-door saying “Trick or Treat” is one of the great adventures of the fall season.

Hours for trick or treating will be between 4:00pm and 8:00pm on October 31, 2016.

Participating homeowners are encouraged to leave an outside light on to let children know they are welcome to visit.  Motorists - please drive carefully and observe the rules of the road.

Remember that this is a day of fun. Damaging property is a crime and the police will called if damage to property occurs.

Follow these easy tips to keep children safe:

  • Always go trick or treating accompanied by an adult.
  • Stick to the designated trick or treat time and area.
  • Plan a safe route so you know where your children are at all times. Set a time for their return home. If your child goes out with just friends, make sure he or she has a cell phone.
  • Stay together as a group if going out without an adult. Be sure to let your parents know who you are with and where you are going.
  • Stay in well-lit, populated areas and do not wander off by yourself.
  • Do not eat any treats until they can be examined at home by an adult.
  • Never enter a home, back or side yard of a stranger or get into a stranger’s car. Call 911 or go to a neighbor’s house for help.
  • Carry a flashlight, glow stick or have reflective tape on costumes to make them more visible to cars.
  • Avoid masks, they can limit vision; use make-up if you can. If they must wear a mask, make sure they have clear vision and remove the mask when crossing the street.
