Trellis

Trellis Farm and Garden

Open in Campton Hills

Trellis Farm and Garden, located in the green barn at 2N492 Kirk Road, St. Charles, has opened a second location right here in Campton Hills.

This location is called Trellis Feed and Supply.  This new new location will be in a family-owned warehouse at 40W296 Wasco Road.  Brothers and owners, Tom and Jim Stopka, will be running the new business in a building with strong family ties as the warehouse once belonged to their father, Edward Green.

Green ran Area Sawdust in that location for many years. The once-sawdust shop has been remodeled from floor to ceiling, incorporating both industrial and handmade fixtures throughout. The the store is located on the 17-mile Great Western Trail, which was created from an old railway line and is popular for walkers, runners and cyclists.

The new store will offer bike rentals for those who want to take a spin along the trail, along with high quality feed, treats, toys and accessories for a wide range of family pets – dogs, cats, chickens, rabbits, llamas, guinea pigs and more.

A grand opening event will be held tomorrow, October 22 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be food, free pony rides, a bird knowledge expert and lots of discounts. Call 630-584-2024 for information.

Also, if you have chickens, Trellis will hold a Cold Weather Chicken Care session on Saturday, October 22 at 9:00 a.m. RSVP to reserve your spot in the session by calling 630-584-2024.

Trick or treat photo

Halloween
Trick or Treating Hours

Kids love Halloween! To dress up in scary costumes and go door-to-door saying “Trick or Treat” is one of the great adventures of the fall season.

Hours for trick or treating will be between 4:00pm and 8:00pm on October 31, 2016.

Participating homeowners are encouraged to leave an outside light on to let children know they are welcome to visit.  Motorists - please drive carefully and observe the rules of the road.

Remember that this is a day of fun. Damaging property is a crime and the police will called if damage to property occurs.

Follow these easy tips to keep children safe:

  • Always go trick or treating accompanied by an adult.

  • Stick to the designated trick or treat time and area.

  • Plan a safe route so you know where your children are at all times. Set a time for their return home. If your child goes out with just friends, make sure he or she has a cell phone.

  • Stay together as a group if going out without an adult. Be sure to let your parents know who you are with and where you are going.

  • Stay in well-lit, populated areas and do not wander off by yourself.

  • Do not eat any treats until they can be examined at home by an adult.

  • Never enter a home, back or side yard of a stranger or get into a stranger’s car. Call 911 or go to a neighbor’s house for help.

  • Carry a flashlight, glow stick or have reflective tape on costumes to make them more visible to cars.

  • Avoid masks, they can limit vision; use make-up if you can. If they must wear a mask, make sure they have clear vision and remove the mask when crossing the street.
