Dear Residents:

Recently, there has been quite a bit of press coverage, as well as social media discussion, regarding the Larsen Light Show on Beith Road.

Contrary to anything you may have heard or read, the Village has no interest, intent or authority to shut down Mr. Larsen’s light show.  The Village’s only interest is public safety related.  The success of Mr. Larsen’s show has created traffic issues that have caused concern about the ability of police and fire personnel to respond to any emergency situation that may be in the area surrounding and adjacent to Beith Road.

Mr. Larsen’s show will run from November 24th through January 1st.  Monday–Thursday from 5 PM -10:30 PM and Friday-Sunday 5 PM-11:30 PM.   To avoid delays, anyone not wishing to view the show
should use alternate routes if possible.

Mr. Larsen has agreed to provide flaggers/public safety personnel on the following days and times to improve the traffic problems caused by the popularity of the show.

*Dates of Winter break for Unit School District 303.

On the above-described dates, the process will work as follows:

There will be two (2) flaggers; one flagger would be positioned near Anderson Road and Beith Road and the second flagger would be positioned on Beith Road, near Mr. Larsen’s home.  The flaggers will allow traffic to stop between them on eastbound Beith Road.  Periodically, the flaggers will alternately allow the traffic from the east and west to move around those vehicles stopped in the eastbound lane (viewing the show).  This process is similar to what happens for many road construction projects.  Please note that westbound traffic will not be allowed to stop at all.

This year Mr. Larsen’s show will be 25 minutes long.  Mr. Larsen will also be using traffic control personnel to move vehicles in and out of his parking lot at the beginning and end of each performance.  Mr. Larsen is going to allow for a ten (10) intermission between shows for the parking lot to empty and fill.  During this time, vehicles stacked on eastbound Beith Road will also move on, and new vehicles will be allowed to move into the stacking area for the next performance.

Also, Mr. Larsen will be coordinating his show with Campton Hills Highway District during predicted storm events.  When there is a predicted serious snow storm, Mr. Larsen will not be operating his show.  This action will allow snowplows to keep the roads clear and safe.  Also, Mr. Larsen will be shutting down his show if Campton Hills Highway District contacts him because a snow event has become more serious than predicted, and there is a need for snow plows to service the area in and around Beith Road.

Hopefully, this adds clarity to the situation.  Please feel free to contact me if you have any further questions, concerns or comments regarding this issue.

Respectfully,

Harry Blecker
Village President
