For Scout

From the President
Maxxam Update

As you are probably aware, the Maxxam special use permit for a Level IV Substance Abuse and Alcoholism Rehabilitation Center, located at the former Glenwood School on Silver Glen Road, will be going to the full County Board on May 9, 2017 at 9:45 a.m.

The meeting will be held at the County building located at Government Center, Bldg. A, 719 S. Batavia Ave., Geneva, County Board Room.

This petition will be going to the Board with a recommendation of
NO from the Zoning Board of Appeals and a recommendation of YES from the Development Committee.

It is important to know that the County Board is the final stage of approval, or denial, of this special use permit. This is the last opportunity to make your voice heard. Click here to  e-mail members of the County Board. I strongly urge you to write or e-mail a polite, factual and non-discriminatory letter to each Board member stating your concerns about this proposal.

I realize that attending a 9:45 a.m. meeting on a work day is difficult for many people. That being said, it is important to have as many people attend this meeting as possible.

If you wish to have 3 minutes to speak directly to the Board, you must pre-register at the county web site. Click here  to register to speak.

I am looking forward to seeing you on May 9th.

Sincerely,

Harry Blecker
President, Village of Campton Hills

Tornado

Health Matters News April 2017
Tornado Season

Springtime is the season when Illinois typically sees the most tornadoes, although history has shown that the storms can develop in any month of the year. Heading into spring, now is a good time for us to learn more about the dangers of severe weather, make emergency plans with our families, and gather the materials we would need in our emergency kits.

During severe weather events, experts encourage you to listen to NOAA Weather Radio or to commercial radio or television newscasts for the latest information. It is important that in any emergency, always listen to, and follow the instructions given by local emergency management officials.

Especially at this time of year, be alert to weather conditions that can change quickly.
Look for the following danger signs:

• Dark, often greenish sky

•  Large hail

• A large, dark, low-lying cloud
  (particularly if rotating)

•  Loud roar, similar to a freight train

• If you see approaching storms or any of the
danger signs, be prepared to take shelter
  immediately

Familiarize yourself with these terms to help identify a tornado hazard:

Tornado Watch - Tornadoes are possible. Remain alert for approaching storms. Watch the sky and stay tuned to NOAA Weather Radio, commercial radio or television for information.

Tornado Warning - A tornado has been sighted or indicated by weather radar. Take shelter immediately.

Tornadoes are violent as they can completely destroy well-made structures, uproot trees and hurl objects through the air like deadly missiles. Although severe tornadoes are most common in the Plains States, they can happen anywhere.

Learn what to do to keep your loved ones safe.

Identify a safe place in your home where household members and pets will gather during a tornado; a basement, storm cellar or an interior room on the lowest floor with no windows. In a high-rise building, choose a hallway in the center of the building. You may not have enough time to go to the lowest floor.

In a mobile home, choose a safe place in a nearby sturdy building. If your mobile home park has a designated shelter, make it your safe place. No mobile home, however it is configured, is safe in a tornado.
