As of January 1, 2020, Recreational Cannabis will be legal for the consumption and possession of marijuana in Illinois. The Village Board is currently considering regulations for Recreational Cannabis Businesses within the community. These regulations will affect both the potential to grow Cannabis product in the Village and/or the retail sale of Cannabis for recreational use. The Act also preserves local zoning authority and directly authorizes municipalities to prohibit (opt out) or significantly limit the location of cannabis businesses by ordinance. Before the Village Board takes final action on this measure, it is requesting feedback from the community in regards to how the Village should proceed.
The Illinois Municipal League (IML) has developed a factsheet regarding Adult-Use Cannabis that is linked here. This fact sheet discusses the regulations available for Illinois municipalities.
The Village Board has already had two (2) meetings where this topic has been discussed. The next scheduled discussion of the topic will be Tuesday, September 3, 2019.
The Village Board is requesting feedback from residents about how the Village should regulate Adult-Use Recreational Cannabis.
